    KSO MERCHANT & GOULD-CONCERTMASTER SERIES


     Violinist William Shaub stars in the second installment of the KSO Merchant & Gould Concertmaster Series featuring the music of Mozart, C.P.E. Bach, J.S. Bach, and Kendall Briggs.

    Established in 1935, the KSO has contributed to the cultural life in East Tennessee continuously for 80 years, providing excellence in musical and educational programs. The Orchestra consists of 80 professional musicians and performs 250 programs throughout the region each season, reaching audiences of more than 200,000 people. The KSO performs in traditional venues such as the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theatre, and the Civic Auditorium as well as non-traditional places like hospitals, schools, city parks and churches.     NOURISH KNOXVILLE’S WINTER FARMERS’ MARKET


    Nourish Knoxville, Inc. is a Knoxville-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working in the East Tennessee region to cultivate and support relationships between farmers, artisanal producers, and the community through outreach, education, and advocacy and to build healthy communities through connections to local food.

    The Winter Farmers’ Market, held in the Historic 4th and Gill neighborhood, will host farm & food vendors selling pasture-raised meats, eggs, winter produce, honey, baked goods, artisan foods, and more. Outside, food trucks will be serving up lunch from locally-sourced ingredients.

    KNOXVILLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - NIGHT WITH THE ARTS: MLK CELEBRATION CONCERT


    The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Carpetbag Theatre will present A Night with the Arts: A Celebration Concert in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    This concert, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission of Greater Knoxville with support from Knox County Commissioners Brad Anders, Evelyn Gill, Bob Thomas, and Dave Wright. 

    KSO Music Director Aram Demirjian conducts the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra joined by the Celebration Choir directed by Aaron Staple. The performance will include song and spoken word by members of the Carpetbag Theatre, directed by Linda Parris-Bailey.

Each dinner features entertainment by guest and local artists.

    Enjoy a special performance of Knoxville Opera’s educational and community outreach production of Turandot. Complete with set, costumes and props, this abbreviated version of Puccini’s masterpiece is performed in English by Brittany Robinson, Aaron Short and Kristen Vogel, accompanied by Maestro Brian Salesky.

    KNOXVILLE JAZZ ORCHESTRA - AN EVENING WITH BILL FRISELL


    An Evening with Bill Frisell

    In 2015, legendary guitarist Bill Frisell teamed up with Michael Gibbs, one of his former Berklee College of Music professors, and the famed NDR jazz orchestra of Germany to record a full length recording of music for big band. The fruits of that recording will be performed live in the U.S. for the first time at this very special event. The New York Times proclaimed that Frisell “plays up the pleasure in the music, and also takes on another often-avoided subject, tenderness.” The Philadelphia Inquirer stated that “Frisell is a revered figure among musicians - like Miles Davis and few others, his signature is built from pure sound and inflection; an anti-technique that is instantly identifiable”

    RUN FOR THEIR LIVES 5K RUN/WALK KNOXVILLE


    Run 4 Their Lives is a Freedom 4/24 event that raises awareness and funds to bring sexually exploited women and children into freedom.

    Freedom 4/24 is partnering with several local Knoxville organizations for this event:

    Community Coalitition Against Human Trafficking (CCAHT) (http://ccaht.org) is the only counter-trafficking organization in upper East Tennessee that works to unite and equip our community to end modern-day slavery while providing survivors of human trafficking with individualized, relational care through its direct services program, Grow Free Tennessee.

    Street Hope TN (http://www.streethopetn.org) is a faith-based organization leading churches, community organizations and individuals on a comprehensive path to end domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) in Tennessee and in the US. Street Hope TN trains people by spreading awareness of DMST, connecting churches to community services meeting the needs of vulnerable children, and engaging individuals in making a difference for justice in the lives of our community.

    THE EVERGREEN BALL


    The Evergreen Ball is first and foremost a celebration – a celebration of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the long history of its support and preservation by the people of this region. The Evergreen Ball is also a celebration of generosity – many individuals and businesses contribute their time and their resources to make this evening special each year. Over the event’s fourteen year history, it has raised more than $5.5 million to support education, conservation, historic preservation, and wildlife protection programs in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
