Friedman's Loft: A Downtown Space With So Much To Offer

While this may differ from the homes we usually discover in this feature, we couldn’t help but show off the five bedrooms, spa, three living areas, game room and the amazing hidden room. What is now known as Friedman’s Loft, located across the street from the Knoxville Visitors Center, has withstood the test of time. It survived the Million Dollar Fire of 1897, as well as a fire in the building next door in 1902. It boasts two full kitchens, with one being in a fully finished basement complete with pool tables, a large screen tv and a secret bunk room perfect for the kids. The property has eight bedrooms spanning over 10,000 sq feet. To say it would be perfect to host a large group is an understatement.

Formerly known by most Knoxvillians as Max Friedman Jeweler’s from the 1940’s up until the 1990’s when Friedman retired, this building got a facelift from Sanders Pace Architecture in 2005. It was redesigned to be the perfect event space and short term rental. One of the more unique things about this building is that it still utilizes the original jewelry vault that is now used as a hidden speakeasy for guests. It was remodeled and filled with antiques from the early 1900’s during prohibition. On the walls there are also old pictures of downtown Knoxville including the Friedman’s building, highlighting some of the history including the old clock that the building was known for having on its front Gay St. facing wall. We spent hours in the space, and although we didn’t get to stay the night we truly enjoyed our time in Friedman’s Loft.
