Formed in 1915, the Rotary Club of Knoxville is among the oldest and largest Rotary Clubs in Tennessee and is the oldest and largest service organization in Knoxville. Club members were instrumental in the formation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and currently sponsor a National Park project. The club is also the steward of the Rotary Foundation of Knoxville, which funds multiple local and international service projects, including college tuition scholarships for local high school graduates, numerous literacy and clean water projects, financial support of the opera, symphony, theater, art and photography and an annual Peace Award that recognizes those who promote harmony within our city.

Rotary International, the world’s first service club, was started in Chicago in 1905 by four professionals and businessmen who wanted to serve their community. Now, more than 1.4 million Rotary members in more than 35,000 clubs in 200 countries volunteer their time and talents to further the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” Rotary Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious and are open to all cultures, races and creeds, to do good in the world.
