I recently returned from a spring break trip with my husband and kids, where we explored a city in the Midwest. Traveling is always an adventure, filled with new sights and experiences. I spent a lot of time researching how my family would fill our days, what sites we would visit and which restaurants we would enjoy. While I love the thrill of discovering a new city, this trip reminded me there really is no place like home. Yet, it’s easy to fall into the same patterns and routines, frequenting our usual spots without thinking twice. This trip was a reminder to break out of that habit and spend more time being a tourist in my own city. So, I want to challenge myself and our readers to explore the incredible attractions Knoxville has to offer.
One of the most exciting additions to our city this season is the brand-new home of the Smokies baseball team. Their inaugural season at Covenant Health Park is set to be one for the books, and this stunning new stadium brings an added energy to our downtown. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just looking for a fun night out with family and friends, catching a Smokies game should definitely be on your to-do list this spring. Beyond baseball, there are so many ways to experience Knoxville. From the scenic trails at Ijams Nature Center to the bustling Market Square, from the Knoxville Museum of Art to the historic Tennessee Theatre, there is always something happening. This season, I’m making it a point to step out of my routine and rediscover the gems in our backyard.
Being a guest in another city also made me wonder what visitors think when they come to Knoxville. Do they notice the charm of our downtown streets? Do they feel the warmth of our community? Do they leave with memories of great food, good times and Southern hospitality? I hope so. And I hope that as locals, we continue to take pride in our city and share its magic with others.
So, let’s make this season one of exploration, whether it’s discovering a new restaurant, attending a local event or simply looking at Knoxville with fresh eyes. And if you have a favorite hidden gem or an upcoming event you’d love to share, let me know! VIP Knoxville is all about celebrating the people, places and experiences that make this city special. Here’s to an exciting spring, filled with adventure and a whole lot of hometown pride.
