Centro Hispano De East Tennessee celebrated its annual Latino Awards, marking 19 years of dedicated service to the community. This flagship fundraiser honors exceptional individuals while showcasing the incredible diversity and resilience of the Latino community in Knoxville and East Tennessee.

Scruffy City Soirée

The Scruffy City Soirée, presented by the Lawson Family Foundation, is Knox Heritage’s largest annual fundraiser and most anticipated event of the year. This year, the event was extra special as it commemorated a milestone for Knox Heritage: 50 years.

VIProfile: Jan Brown and Tammy White

Meet Jan Brown and Tammy White. Brown is Chair of the Board of Leadership Knoxville, and White serves as President and CEO of the same organization. The women met when Brown joined the 2009 class of Introduction Knoxville and were reintroduced when she became a member of the 2014 class of Leadership Knoxville.

For Lilli Teeter Brown, growing up as the oldest of seven children, her mother and father were her mentors. Her father served as a high school science teacher and coached football and basketball. He and her mother taught core values that would guide Brown throughout her life.

Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians Partners with Young-Williams Animal Center to Send Shelter Dogs A Barkbox

Since dogs are also a girl’s best friend, Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians is partnering with animal shelters across the region to treat pups and support local troops. As part of the Fall Product Program, troops are offering a BarkBox for dogs in need of rescue.

Friends of the Smokies Celebrates the Restoration of the Chapman-Byers Cabin

Thanks to support from Friends of the Smokies, the Forever Places crew recently completed the restoration of the Chapman-Byers Cabin in the Elkmont Historic District of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. More than 15 years ago, the park announced it would restore 19 historic structures in Elkmont, including the Appalachian Clubhouse.
